Chronological Outline
1949 | The former Tokyo Metropolitan University (東京都立大学) opens. The first, second, and third courses of law, the courses of politics, and the special courses of law and politics are established in the Faculty of Humanities. |
1953 | The Department of Law is established in the Faculty of Humanities. |
1955 | Master’s and Doctoral programs in politics are established in the Graduate School of Social Sciences. |
1957 | Faculty of Law and Economics is established. |
1958 | The Department of Jurisprudence Masters Program and Doctoral Program are established in the Graduate School of Social Sciences. |
1966 | The Faculty of Law and Economics is abolished and the Department of Law and the Faculty of Economics are established. |
1991 | Moved the entire campus to current address, Minami-Osawa, Hachioji-shi. |
2004 | The Law School is established in the Graduate School of Social Sciences (“the Law School of the former Tokyo Metropolitan University”). |
2005 | The four Tokyo Metropolitan universities (the former Tokyo Metropolitan University, the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, the Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences, and the Tokyo Metropolitan College) are combined and the new Tokyo Metropolitan University (首都大学東京) is established. The School of Law and Politics, Faculty of Urban Liberal Arts, the Tokyo Metropolitan University is newly established and the Division of Law and the Division of Politics are established. The Graduate School of Social Sciences of the Tokyo Metropolitan University is newly established, and the Department of Politics and the Department of Jurisprudence are established. The primary doctoral courses (master’s courses) and secondary doctoral courses (doctoral courses) are also established. At the same time, the professional degree course of the Law School (“the Law School of the Tokyo Metropolitan University”) is established in the same graduate school. |
2007 | The Graduate School of Social Sciences Department of Politics is converted into the field of politics in the Department of Law and Politics, while the Department of Jurisprudence is converted into the field of law in the Department of Law and Politics. |
2018 | The School of Law and Politics, Faculty of Urban Liberal Arts is reorganized in the Faculty of Law, and the Graduate School of Social Sciences is reorganized in the Graduate School of Law and Politics. |
2020 | The Japanese Name of Tokyo Metropolitan University is changed from “首都大学東京(Shuto-Daigaku-Tokyo)” to “東京都立大学(Tokyo-Toritsu-Daigaku)”. |
